IT’S MY 21ST BIRTHDAY TODAY!!!!!! FINALLY. My sorority sisters and best friends are helping me have the best birthday ever. (I even heard a rumor that my mother is somehow involved in the mystery plans.) Can’t wait to share photos!
P.S. Don’t worry mom and dad, I promise I wore underwear to the bars last night. (Unlike above Barbie.)
Just a quick note to say that Love a la mode now has its very own Facebook page! It would make my day if you would go HERE and like it please. Not only will you get awesome karma, but you’ll also get exclusive bonus photos and other content, as well as nifty updates! If you want to be supportive but don’t want updates popping up on your newsfeed, you can change this on the “settings” tab after you “like!” I can’t believe how much this little blog has grown over the last year and a half and I want to thank y’all enormously for everything. I do this for you, and I couldn’t do it without you :)
And a cool picture of ice cream. Just because. I mean this is Love a la mode after all.
As the boy and I were traipsing around downtown Austin enjoying all there was to see of the South by Southwest music/film/interactive festival, we were lucky enough to win VIP tickets to an abandoned warehouse party in the colorful neighborhood of East 5th street to see Diplo, ?uestlove, A-Track, AraabMuzik and a few other dubsteps artists! It was a great surprise and definitely one of the highlights of the week. Luckily B was kind enough to indulge me in a few outfit photos along the way :)
Sugar lips tank (similar), red Fire skinny jeans via Nordstrom Rack (Marc Jacobs makes a gorgeous version), Sam Edelman sandals, Lulu*s necklace (similar), and a vintage [thanks mom] chain and quilted purse (similar). For jewelry I opted for a sparkly gold bangle (like this affordable snag from House of Harlow) and a dainty pearl and gold ring.
Well here it is, my last and final post from this year’s Texas Style Council Conference which I attended in Austin over spring break. It was a fabulous conference and I learned so much from the speakers! Without further ado, here’s a brief recap of the most important ideas I walked away with.
To start the day off on the right foot, Kendi gave a wonderful keynote address which can be surmised with the takeaway “your purpose is much bigger than your blog” and “your blog is not your life.” These are truly important statements to take to heart as I try to figure out where exactly my blog fits into my life, and how I can grow and evolve it in the coming year.
The main idea we kept hearing was how to keep your blog and personal voice unique and interesting, and also to blog with a larger goal and picture in mind. This was especially relevant to me as I think about looming college graduation and the “real world” beyond. (Theoretically I still shouldn’t be graduating for another year, but I only have 15 hours left until I complete my degree so I’m trying to delay the process.) I was definitely inspired to take my blog to the “next level” over the next few months and you’ll start seeing several significant upgrades and changes ’round here!
Overall I can’t even begin to cover what an inspiration this conference was, and also a great networking opportunity. I am confident that everything I learned will help me improve my writing, content, and the overall experience of Love a la mode. Here’s to changes and exciting things to come!
For the last few days I’ve been telling you all about the blogging conference I attended… Well- here’s what I wore:
I embraced all of my favorite spring trends with this look! The darling nude and coral top came from The Red Dress Boutique when I won a gift certificate through a blogging competition. I paired it with white Express jeans and gold glitter Gianni Bini heels from Dillard’s which I don’t think are there anymore, but these are almost identical! For jewelry, I went with my trusty gold monogram necklace and pearl earrings.
What do you think of this ensemble? What are your favorite spring trends?
Saturday night at the Texas Style Council Conference is always one of the highlights. They hosted a fabulous party full of pop-up shops and great giveaways by several of the conference sponsors. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say what an absolutely wonderful time I had, and also to highlight a few of the great companies I learned about at the party that I was particularly drawn to!
Upon walking in to the party, we bloggers were each treated to a pair of Dr.Scholl’s Fast Flats, a really comfy pair of ballet-flat like slippers to give our feet some relief from our sky-high heels. They were super comfy and made walking back to the car much more bearable! We were also gifted a beautiful Stella and Dot bracelet from Whitney Fields. I have purchased from her before and she is a great Stylist to work with! She is adorable and sweet, and I strongly recommend going through her if you plan to purchase anything from Stella and Dot.
INPINK also graciously provided me with giftcards totaling $100 to spend on any of the amazing jewelry on their website. I haven’t quite finished spending it yet, but when I do I will be sure to let you know what I picked out! Another jewelry designer I was enamored by was Manic Trout. I love how she mixes vintage and modern to create really unique pieces. I absolutely adore this necklace made out of Amazonite and a metal seahorse ($85). And of course also this bracelet featuring a stegosaurus, $50 (although it’s a toss up whether I would prefer that one to the brontosaurus!)
Lastly, I really liked the mission behind Radiant Cosmetics. This makeup company was founded to help victims of human trafficking and support charities that combat the illegal sex industry. At a minimum, at least 20% of their profits are donated to these causes. They had some great lip glosses and my best friend loved their mascara, so make sure to check them out!
There were tons of other awesome sponsors at the party, including Lulu*s, ModCloth, Land’s End Canvas, Francesca’s Collections, and Electric Frenchie just to name a few. Unfortunately I just can’t individually highlight them all, but I want to thank each and every one of them for helping make the Texas Style Council Conference weekend a huge success! You can check out that website to see who else was there too :)
On Saturday morning, Cassie, Laura, and I braved the thunderstorms to attend the Texas Style Council Mentor brunch. We munched on delicious egg, avocado, and black bean breakfast tacos from Cantina Laredo, yogurt parfaits from KIND, and coffee and tea from Jo’s Coffee and Honest Tea.
I learned so much from the people I had the opportunity to speak with! I discussed the challenges of being a college blogger with Diya of In Her Stilettos, a new way to monetize and advertise with Ryan from iSocket, how to work with brands from Turi who works for Modcloth, pitching 101 from Jessica who works for Refinery 29, and a little bit about the print magazine/online editorial world from Caroline Waxler, who works for Lucky Magazine.
After brunch we spent the afternoon shopping around the 2nd Street District and South Congress. I picked up a gorgeous teal dress from Langford Market (where I also filled up on sinfully scrumptious cupcakes from Delish Bakery) and also scored two new Voluspa candles from Luxe Apothetique, and a birthday present for one of my best friends from Maya*. I also might have stopped for a little guacamole snack at Gueros— what can I say, I couldn’t resist!
Tune in later this week for posts on Saturday night’s sponsor party and a full rundown of Sunday’s awesome blogging panel discussions!
I kicked off spring break with a long day of travel to Austin followed by a night of fun at the first event for the Texas Style Council Conference, a swap party co-hosted by Lulu*s and Swap.com. It was a blast! Attendees were asked to bring 2 items of clothing to swap, and I traded a pair of denim shorts from Madewell and a vintage cocktail dress for a sheer leopard print button down and a neat red colorblock skirt that’s a bit mod. In addition, Lulu*s was showing off a bunch of their current pieces and I found more than a few to crush on.
Among my favorite items on display from Lulu*s were:
It was the perfect kickoff to a wonderful weekend, more on the fabulous sponsor’s party, mentor brunch, and of course, the panels- coming later this week :) What did you do this weekend?
Spring break is in just a few days! I’m not exactly going anywhere exotic, but I am excited to get back to Austin for a few days and enjoy SXSW fun and the Texas Style Council Conference for fashion bloggers! When I return to school, pool party season will be in full swing! I’m not exactly in need of a new swimsuit per se, but I recently came across these two and they’re just so darling! Love the ruffles + pastel combo.
What swimwear has caught your eye recently? Note to self: must get spray tan pronto.
