Making Your Own Sushi

21 Nov

A few nights ago one of my roommates and I attended a make-your-own sushi party. I absolutely love seafood (and the more raw, the better) so this was a really fun experience…. even if I don’t think I have a successful career as a sushi chef ahead of me. I’m definitely going to be looking for a local market in my area where I will be able to buy sushi-grade fish to attempt making a few things on my own! Here’s how it went down:

Step 1: Lay seawood shiny side up on your rolling bamboo. Wet hands and then mash a thin layer of rice all around.

Lay out all your ingredients. I put cucumber, avocado, and crab in mine :)

Roll, slice, and you're done!

I had such a fun time doing this with my friends, I can’t wait to try it again sometime. I’m quite the seafood and sushi addict… have you ever tried to make your own rolls? What’s your favorite kind of sushi? I’m rather partial to tootsie rolls and crunchy spicy tuna… mmm yummo!

Photo diary from this week in L.A.

24 Jun

Well hellooo  there! Today was the first week I had a somewhat regular schedule, and it still managed to be jam-packed without time to do any of the shopping or errands I really need to do. Luckily I only work Tues-Wed-Thurs, so I have a 4 day weekend coming up which will hopefully include lots of fun things :)

On Sunday I went with my boyfriend and his entire family to a father’s day brunch, followed by the Beverly Hills Classic Car Show, and then there was a cook out/bbq at B’s parent’s house later that evening. I ate SO MUCH FOOD it was unbelievable.

A cute classic convertible at the Car Show, in my dad's favorite car color, British Racing Green

This cute little car was called a "Bubble" I believe... the door is the front. Weird.

On Monday I had an interview for a new part time internship which I GOT YAY!!! I love love LOVE my new Tuesday/Thursday job. I’m reading some amazing scripts. Oh, and, Adam Levine was rehearsing for a music video shoot in my office today. nbd. (that means no big deal, mom.)

Even though he was rehearsing, I pretended it was him serenading me all morning.

Also, I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I came across this little comic book gem while doing some research for work today. It's fabulous.

Fresh From Israel

6 Jun

Greetings there strangers! This is about the first time I’ve truly had extra internet time in almost 3 weeks. Yikes. I just spent the past two and a half weeks in Israel, and now I’m in Bordeaux, France, visiting my cousin. In other exciting news… when I get back to the states next Monday I’ll be moving to LA for the summer to work for an entertainment company! WOO! I’m so excited and having a blast abroad. Without further ado, here are pictures from the beginning of my trip to Israel :)

Step 1: Get off plane. Step 2: Settle into hotel. Step 3: Get dressed up and go out to the bars on Ben Yehuda street in Jerusalem

Me and one of my sorority sisters at the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem

Israel is quite possibly the only place where the phrase "mall food court sushi" sounds like the greatest idea in the world. I didn't even remember to take the picture until I'd already eaten half of it.

Another night out on Ben Yehuda. Just for the record, the boyfriend and I are not matching on purpose. Bars and clubs in Israel generally come with free hookah and shots when you order drinks, interesting fact.

Well that covers the first 2 days… stay tuned later this week for a pictorial of The Shuk on a Friday afternoon… aka, a crazy hectic market place full of wonderful foods and smells during peak rush time.

Rachel

Irvine and Adrian Grenier (!!!)

10 Feb

The most amazing thing just happened to me. I was walking into the film building to work on a really annoying project I’ve been putting off all week. Right as the elevator door opened for me to get off, Adrian Grenier walked in. Yep. Actor Adrian Grenier. From Entourage. And The Devil Wears Prada. Can I just say….. OMG WTF I WAS IN AN ELEVATOR WITH ADRIAN GRENIER AND I DIDN’T SAY A WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I froze. He was singing. He’s beautiful. I”m literally KICKING myself for not saying hi. We made direct eye contact. Really, he has the most captivating eyes.

So why is he here in Tucson you may ask? Well, he recently produced a documentary called Teenage Paparazzo and he’s on campus to screen it tonight and do a guest lecture and Q + A sesh. I have tickets for me and my boyfriend and I’m really excited!  Alright so that was my 30 seconds of fame. Or, being next to fame. Sigh.

Aside from that little splurt of excitement, things have been going well aside from massive amounts of homework. Last night my girls and I went out for a fabulous sushi din where we splurged and ordered a huge sashimi combo boat, a caterpillar roll, rainow roll, and tempura. I meant to take pictures but… Sushi doesn’t last so long when placed on a table in front of my friends :)

After the documentary screening tonight I will be madly packing to go to Irvine tomorrow morning. Here’s what I’m thinking of wearing on the plane:
